High voltage DC

Specification of 600kV DC and 400kV AC equipment

High voltage DC

The Western Link project is a 600kV high voltage DC link that will bring renewable energy from Scotland to homes in Wales and England.  The link consists of two large converter stations at Deeside and Hunterston connected by a 385km long DC cable.

Horan Power Engineering carried out detailed engineering reviews of the specifications for all high voltage substation equipment on the project.  The aim was to ensure ensure full compliance with the Client’s requirements, which included National Grid and Scottish Power standards as well as International standards.

Our scope of work also included reviewing and reporting on technical compliance for over 300 supplier offers.
